Found this guy the other day. Got to admit, I was not expecting this kind of double in the Denver mint. Is this a type 1 double? Also what grade would this be filed under?

Ok so die markers are a bunch of die scratches and gouges from what I'm getting from the web site. Is that correct? If so I was just looking at it and it has minor scratches, but I think that is way out of my beginner league L. To determine if it is post die or die. Might have to take it to a local coin shop. If a coin like this is not listed does that mean no one has sent it to a major grading company like pcgs or anacs.......?

Your coin will probably know nothing about it. It is a variety. They just sell coins. (A good place to check out for varieties they may have in the future when your ready to search. But when you take images of your coin, look at the coppercoins images and take images that match those images as close to the same amount in the image per image that they have or even closer on the areas where the markers are. Note what to focus in on the information on the left side of the screen on their descriptions. That will help a lot to see what you should be seeing in the images. Take your time with it. The more you learn, the more you will know about what to look for. Forget sending it off to be graded. You can get the best attribution here with great images.

Yes, it is a Class 1, and I am with Coop on this one. It looks like the 002. Class 1 is the most desireable form of doubling and fetch the higher values. Class 6 and Class 9 can be found by the boatload if you search enough. Very nice find. 1972 was a great year for Class 1 doubled dies, I really encourage you and everyone reading this to study the images and descriptions on Coppercoins website. It is the most valuable tool for us. There really is no other resource like it for ANY hobby. We are lucky to have such dedicated people like Chuck and Bob who have given so much of their time, effort, and money to create it for us,tely free.

I agree with Coop again. Local coin shops cannot tell you the difference in a variety and an error. Folks like Coop here on the forum are your best bet when looking for help. I have a few decades of work to catch up with Coop, but I have committed myself in learning and teaching as much as possible. The more we spread the word about this fun part of the hobby will only help in raising the values of the gems we seek.
