This was in with a bunch of dimes today, and was deposited as such. It's my first Three Cent'er, my first odd/obsolete denomination coin, and my oldest US coin by almost 40 years. There's some gunk on the date but looks like 1867.

Were these things widely faked? I have no reason to question its authenticity, but am not familiar enough with the denomination to be sure.

I have heard of a few fakes, which this one sort of looks like. It might just be rough surfaces though. Great find!

this date and coin are produced en mass from China. Not sure what you have here or how it would have ever made its way into circulation but I would carefully exam against a known authentic one and go from there.

OK, this is the coolest story I'll hear all day. I don't see a chance of it being a fake - too many of the obvious features of a 3CN, including ones which aren't deliberate (like the missing tops of lettering) are present. At some time in the past, somebody got bored and scratched it up, but I feel that to be evidence in favor of originality.

This deserves dancing fruit a la Moe! I think it is authentic - I wonder if someone salted the roll for interest.

Not from a roll, just with some loose change. I weighed it, and that seems good, at 1.99g.

Great find ... another reason to pay attention to whatever change comes to your hands.

Limited knowledge on the series ... however I say authentic.

Looks good to me too - date and lettering are all correct. What a find.
