Has anyone ever seen an 1888 re-punch 8 like this before?

Thanks

Unique for sure--the die must have been at an extreme angle to shave the first struck 8. Great example!

Not necessarily a repunched 8, there are a number of causes of apparent doubling. Too much speculation here,a repunched digit will certainly not be unique.
