Picked up this Stone Mountain yesterday for $35. Not a super deal, but not bad. It's raw, but in really good shape.

Very nice.

I do find it interesting that Classic commems were minted for circulating and were used, yet Modern commens are not.

Actually, the coins of the classic series were not struck for circulation. They were struck for collectors and sold at a premium. It was only when some of the sponsors could not sell all of the coins they ordered from the Mint that some were placed into circulation to cover their expenses.

The Columbian and Stone Mountain half dollars were among those that had large numbers of coins released into circulation after sales failed to meet expectations.

Nice coin Augiedog from what I can observe from the obverse .... hopeful it came with two sides and perhaps you'll someday show both. :)

Pleased to note your interest in classic silver commemorative ... this is a lovely series filled with history and great designs.

Concur with commems input ..

Try finding an example from the crazy year of 1936 ... you will quickly learn that these were not minted for circulation.

Yep, I checked, and there are two sides to the coin LOL. Here's the other side....sorry I didn't post both sides initially. Yeah, I really like the history that comes with these Commemoratives. It's nice that so many older ones are attainable at reasonable prices and in such great conditions.

Really sweet coin, Augiedog.

And once again, commems, your knowledge is formidable.

Thanks to both of you.

I may have to start working on this collection!
