As silver has been slipping down .. have others here started putting more silver away? I see the price of silver dropping as a good opportunity to put more away. Here are the ones I picked up today. 1881 S 1883 O 1884 O (3 times) 1885 O 1923 Some kids just don't get into coin collecting ... Zoey still likes sticks better

Six are from the $45 bucket ... The 1923 from the $22 bucket ... But I did get a discount. I try to buy some dollars or ASE's every week ... well silver dimes too.

Very nice! I like the 1883-O. It seems to have flashy luster and a good strike.

The 1883-O is a beautiful coin. And it looks like all of the Morgans are prooflikes. I wouldn't say that any of the Morgans would qualify as "bullion" coins. $45 each is a great price for these. Only the Peace dollar qualifies as a bullion coin. That being said, I started this year by buying an ASE or two each month, but alas, I did not continue. I think silver has pretty much hit bottom and it will be going one direction (up) in the future. Time to get some more while they are cheap.

Quote: I wouldn't say that any of the Morgans would qualify as "bullion" coins. $45 each is a great price for these. I did not really say that right ... the 6 Morgan's were in the $45 dollar bucket, but I did get a good discount from that price, I feel because I buy a lot and the price of silver is trending down. To be fair to the LCS, I don't feel posting exactly what I paid, because I know there are CCF members that are local. I would not want to cause any impact on what the LCS charges each customer. But you are correct the Morgan's would not be considered bullion coins. My favorite coins for bullion are ASE's and silver dimes. With the price of silver getting lower, these coins are not always available at my LCS. So dollars are my next choice. As I am writing this, I am thinking how the dollar coin has not had a lot of success as a circulating coin. But a favorite of collectors. In my mind I think it would be cool to have a 1000 morgan/peace dollars in my collection. I think I could do that if I stop getting side tracked with other sets. I know I am only at or approaching 200 morgan/peace right now. So 1000 .... might be just a dream .. maybe 500 is a easier goal. But then ... if I counted Morgan, Peace, ASE, commemorative (90%) dollars and %40 Ikes .... 1000 could be very possible ... has anyone else set a goal like that ...

Those are some very nice Morgans. I don't think the value of Morgans has anything to do with silver prices. If you go back to the dealer if silver goes up, you'll most likely see the same coins in the same bucket for the same price.

Couple years ago ... when silver was pushed up into the $40's per oz. The priced of common AU/BU dollars was pushed up with it. It takes a long time for prices to drop back down, if they do at all. I am in, one coin shop or another, 4 or 5 days a week. I am seeing a softening of the prices. At least local to me.

I agree that these are not PL. Three of them are very close, if they had been made on the same dies .. a little sooner .. they would have been. The 1883 O in hand is a very nice looking coin .. for a bucket dollar. To me it looks like the die was set-up to really hammer this coin. The rims look just a little high. Hard for me to explain ... but does look nice.

At least local to me. What I meant was I don't think they go hand in hand like bullion. One minute, it's this price when the next it goes up maybe 10 cents. Larger changes, I can see how Morgans are affected.
