Always enjoy your hat trick zonad. How many of the large 5 are known to exist? Amazing that they remained undiscovered for so long, such a glaring departure from the norm.

Great detail and fantastic clash and wonderful pics from Viper. I love the extra detail in the loop of the last 8 in #3.
Zonad..Could you give us more info on your hat trick? Details that we might be missing..?

The denomination 5 on the left coin was over struck by the 5 which was used for the date on the 1858 20 cent coin.

Does anyone believe the bit in Charlton's concerning the large dates and the four digit gang punch? If this is true, why is there such variation in position and orientation of the 1, as a gang punch is used to maintain a uniformity which is not evident here. A three digit gang punch makes no sense as very little effort is required to add the fourth digit and somebody's bound to misplace it before it can be used again in 2858. More likely that the same hand repunched all the digits with the same displacement.

One more thing before the 1858's are done here. Has anyone else noticed that there is something common to the obverse on all large dates?

Didn't know that about the "5"..so cool...thanks.. Wide..and narrow..keep them coming... Interesting 8 over 8...and the 7 over 7 in my last 1870.. Not seen in the Charlton as such.. We are going to see a lot of interesting doubling in some legends and dates.. . .

Nice repunched 7 showing in that first 1870 .. I'm hoping to see a lot more contributions here,. ...because there are a lot of varieties still waiting to be found..
