DBM Pillar of the Community Canada 9865 Posts	Posted 09/17/2014 11:44 pm Does anyone believe the bit in Charlton's concerning the large dates and the four digit gang punch? If this is true, why is there such variation in position and orientation of the 1, as a gang punch is used to maintain a uniformity which is not evident here. A three digit gang punch makes no sense as very little effort is required to add the fourth digit and somebody's bound to misplace it before it can be used again in 2858. Interesting 8 over 8...and the 7 over 7 in my last 1870.. Not seen in the Charlton as such.. We are going to see a lot of interesting doubling in some legends and dates.. . .
