DEVLEC, one thing I find interesting about the large dates is that they never appear with the misaligned CANADA obverse. The misaligned CANADA obverse is found on quite a large portion of the small dates, never on the large dates, and then reappears 12 years later on some 1870 wide rims. The legend of this realigned CANADA obverse found on both large and small dates continued unchanged right through to OBV5. Charlton's shows the misaligned obverse as obverse1 in the regular catalogue but no mention is made of the obverse with the realigned CANADA. IMO since both obverses required the creation of a matrix die they are both major obverse varieties.

Thanks again Viper...great coins with even better pics.. Before I add my 1871,.. ...I will add a few clearer pics of the 1858 SD cameo addressing Paulsz who asked about the CANADA letters. The "N" and the "D" are repunched for sure. DBM also addressed the placement of the CANADA in the SD and the LD. The SD does have a lot of tilting in the CANADA.. As DBM queried...I don't know if the "gang date punch" theory will hold up seeing as many of my upcoming dates will show great variations in their alignment. What's also to note is the shape of the large beads in the legend. They're perfectly round and this must have been a super strike because I'm used to seeing these large beads flat at the top of them.. DBM seems to have a ton of factual info for us here and I await his feedback again.. . .

Thanks all...Greatly appreciated,. ...but we all love our collecting..and that's what counts.. In my above 1871 there are multiple clashes on the reverse .. and you can easily see Victoria's outline throughout the reverse. The multiple strikes (parallel lines) are best seen in the upper left field. This is a coin with a lot going on..

..and here is my 1872.. Like Viper's..it's an OF2 RF2 Narrow date, Curved Blunt 7 as described on p.272 of the 2010 Charlton.. Anyone have a different variety of the 72 to post here? It would be appreciated...

viper..Your coins are also great..and I do appreciate your contribution here..keep them coming if you can..
All of mine are presently in ICCS holders and pics are taken through 2 sheets of plastic. That's why you sometimes see white lines across the pic..
Camera is a Nikon D50 with a macro lens... and bright sunlight when possible.. Sometimes the bright light washes out the coin...
Take a pic of your baby fingernail and then blow it up to the size of a dinner plate,.. and see if any defects are seen..
That's what we are doing here with these little 5 cent pieces..
