Hi folks. I'm confused about the sensible way to collect this series. My goal is to collect one of every type of ASE that has been minted beginning in 2007 (I decided to make my task a bit more manageable by starting later in the series). I have tried researching, but I haven't been able to find any albums from Dansco or other manufacturers that contain a hole for every ASE ever minted (my understanding is that for some years there are bullion, uncirculated, burnished uncirculated, proof and reverse proofs). How can I figure out the total number (and date/mint mark) of every coin that I need to complete my 2007 to present set? I like the idea of displaying my ASE's in a leather-style album with clear plastic so that you can see both sides of the coins (right now I just keep my ASE's from the past several years inside their mint packaging and stored in a big box without any real order to them:( Anyway, thank you for any suggestions you can give me about how to reach my goal.

The thing to remember too is that most people don't collect them as numismatic items. They hoard/stack them as bullion. Otherwise, I think, you'd see more collector albums and folders for them as you mentioned.

2012: Bullion, Burnished Unc, Proof, San Francisco Proof, San Francisco Reverse Proof
2013: Bullion, Burnished Unc, Proof, West Point Enhanced Unc, West Point Reverse Proof
2014: Bullion, Burnished Unc and Proof

** There are two varieties of 2008 Burnished Unc's (Reverse of 2007 and Reverse of 2008)
***Buying a 2011 25th Anniversary set will get you every example needed for that year
Hope this info is helpful. -MV

Thank you for all the information, folks:) The breakdown of mint mark/type of coin minted by date will be very useful to me. I also like the idea of printing my own labels for use on the blank slots of a Dansco album.

Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to coin collecting and new to this site. I'm in the process of putting together a complete date AND mint mark set of American Silver Eagles 1986-2014 in NGC MS69. Everywhere I've looked to determine exactly how many and of what kind of coins should be included says there are 29 coins (which I have). But 29 coins appear to me to be only a complete DATE set. Shouldn't a truly complete (date and mint mark etc) set also include the following for a total of 33 coins?
2006-W 2008-W Reverse of 2007 2011-W and 2011-S
Am I missing something, and are there others I'm not aware of?
Thanks,
Chris

I'm also putting together a similar collection of NGC PF69 ASE's...will ask other questions on that after I know what I'm doing on the MS69's :-)

Thank you Foxwoods Man. When I read MeadowViewCollector's post I didn't see the 2006-W mentioned (though I did see his statement at the bottom about "Buying a 2011 25th Anniversary set will get you every example needed for that year")...which did cover the rest of my question.
Since I'm still so new I guess I don't understand why everywhere that I've read (so far) about how many coins are in a complete mint state SAE set the number is 29...? So is the number really 33 then, or something else? I just don't want to miss any coins.
Regarding a complete Proof set, the number always mentioned is 28 coins (I presume because there was no proof coin in 2009). However, in trying to put together a complete proof set (mint and date), I see additional proof coins in the 2006 20th Anniversary set, the 2011 25th Anniversary set, and the 2013 2 Coin set that I would think should be included also (including reverse proofs and the 2013 Enhanced proof).
Any help would be appreciated since I obviously am a novice, and would very much like to put together COMPLETE sets of every SAE coin ever produced. I'm doing NGC MS and NGC PF 69's for now...the 70's seem to be very expensive.
Thanks!

At the risk of being repetitive MeadowViewCollector's list has them all...before 1986-2005 there were only PF and bullion with a W in 1995 but good luck with that one.

Hey folks. I have a more general question about condition/quality of manufacture. I just bought a 2009 bullion ASE through ebay to fill a hole in the album I just bought. I was surprised, because the coin I received had a small reed mark on the gown. It's a light hit, but if these coins come directly from Mint sealed tubes, how can they receive Reed Marks? I thought Reed Marks only happen when coins are jostled within big storage bags or when each struck coin falls off the conveyor belt and hits the pile of coins lying below.I didn't realize that ASE's are subject to this kind of shoddy handling (I thought only base metal, high production coins get that treatment). Is that really how ASE's are manufactured and treated, too? I'm sure this is a stupid/ignorant question, but thanks for enlightening me (a novice collector).

Along the way someone in the distribution chain likely opened the tube and examined the coins. Either taking them out or putting them back in the tube is when the mark occurred.
I think, as long as the finished product isn't underweight or excessively overweight, the mint could care less about handling marks.

Thanks again Foxwoods Man, then it appears I have every modern SAE coin in MS69 and PF69 except the "2008-W Reverse of 2007" and the 1995-W. It may take awhile to save enough to get the 95-W, and the 2008-W Reverse of 2007 isn't cheap either at around $500-$600, but hopefully I can get that one soon. Is there an "official" source anywhere to actually see a list of every possible date/mint mark/special issue/error coin variation that is in a set of coins ( Morgan silver dollars for example, but others as well)?

Quote: I thought Reed Marks only happen when coins are jostled within big storage bags or when each struck coin falls off the conveyor belt and hits the pile of coins lying below. The coins were minted in batches AND THEN put into the Mint tubes...no special handling so, while not common, such an injury would be possible. ...and re: lists of all possible variants of Morgans and ASE's. I have a huge book 2 inches thick about Morgan VAM's. Not as many variants of quantity with the ASE (ummm...maybe only the 08/07)
