A Good Example Of Civil Communication Fixing A Problem

You are right, we all get nickel and died everyday. This seller is banking on someone unknowledgeable buying their highly inflated prices to make up for their lower priced items. Just because someone gets good feedback and they ship what they sell does not mean that they are not trying to gouge people.
I was blocked from their postings a while ago when I contacted them about said token in my above response to tell them what they had, and question where they got them since they "didn't know what it was". Doesn't seem like a very honest seller to me.

I am the owner of the ebay store and the coin in question, which I should point out is not listed for sale and was removed yesterday. Please click the link.

If there was any misinformation in the listing, it was not done so to deceive, which again was promptly removed yesterday morning after spp-Ottawa contacted me. Now, in regards to misinformation, there is a great deal of misinformation being spread on this thread by 2 individuals, and I wish to address all concerns.

To begin, I will first post wert's message to myself>>>

My response, which wert cut down to one sentence, actually read exactly as follows, cut and paste, which may actually shed some light on the error in question>>>

in regards to the listing I removed, I believed it to be an ejection clip, not to be confused with a clipped planchet.

this, due to the fact that the gap is the same size as one of the sides of the multi sided collar.

my conclusion was that it did not eject completely from the die after being struck, and it was struck again against a stuck multi sided collar, shearing off the portion at a 45 degree angle.

i also closely examined the gap, and see no evidence of it being post mint damage.

i bought it in a collection of nickels stored in a whitman holder pre 1963, was surprised when I turned it over, and to reiterate, I did examine it thoroughly.

please know, I do listen to those with knowledge in regards to errors, and this is why it's been removed. not because of what I believe it to be, but due to the concerns of others.

i received a message from a very knowledgeable individual who I have great respect for earlier today. he questioned the error and said he did not believe it to be genuine. so, for posterity, I promptly removed the listing.

i am hoping to send it to this gentlemen, so he can see it in person and confirm weather or not it's an ejection clip, and genuine error.

if it's confirmed as genuine, I will list it again, if it's not genuine, it will not be listed again and it will go towards the purchasing of gummy bears at 7/11 for my daughter.

i listed it because I believed it to be absolutely genuine, if I had any reason to believe otherwise, I most certainly would not have listed it.

Now, in response to middross, the individual that began the thread.

You say that you sent me a message? Why don't you post it? I have saved every message received over the years, and there is not one message from him. He did however offer me 2 dollars with free shipping on the 2011 loon token. But there is no message, therefore there is no response. I would be happy to take a screen shot of my email with anything from this individual and post it to prove my point. Or, maybe middross can post said question. I will also point out, in auction at the time, those were selling in live auction for upwards of 75$.

In regards to pricing. As an international seller whom is selling on an ever growing hostile selling venue, I have met many challenges in regards to how to run a profitable enterprise on the venue.

Prices are set as such to allow my self room to move on pricing- I have priced items at their high end and also in accordance to trends, for the most part, sometimes with a premium, allowing myself room to offer tracked shipping outside of North America, which begins at minimum 42$ for tracked shipping- as I offer free shipping.

Please also know, every single listing has an offer option. As many will agree here, I will happily entertain any reasonable offer - and ship fast and free.

This being said, the higher prices also allow myself to view the individual's feedback left for others when offers are made, which allows me to decide if I want to deal with the particular member. In the case of middross, you offered me 2 dollars on a token that I paid 3$ for, and the listing had free shipping so you were blocked, and looking back, I made the right choice.

I have worked very hard at providing good products and services to people around the world, and treated everyone with respect as a valued customer.

Back to the nickel, I absolutely would not have listed this if I did not think it was genuine. I am going to send this to spp-Ottawa to view in person if he will allow. It was not my intention to deceive. I believed the coin to be an ejection clip, the gap consistent with 1 of the sides of the multi sided collar. Has anyone seen an ejection clip from a multi sided nickel? Can anyone speak to what one would look like?

If the error is not genuine, I offer my sincere apologies, and all I can say is that like anyone here, I do make mistakes.

Anyone that is interested in an item can make an offer, we're easy to deal with, and like some dealing back and forth, we are from Winnipeg, after all.

I think as far as the clip goes its PMD for a number of reasons, too many to mention right now. IMO
As a past satisfied customer I appreciate seeing you here at CCF if your going to sell error coins then this is the place to post the ones your not sure of prior to selling. Posting here can save on the frustration of negitive feedback on the bay.

Dave, if it was an ejection clip, there would be an offset of metal on the reverse; an analogy is the Law of Conservation of Mass... for metal to deform that deep on the obverse, it has to go somewhere, it would have severely deformed the reverse on the opposite side, or the reverse would have been flattened by the force, before being sheared off.

Secondly, the collar is not excessively deep, so what actually caused that shear? I ask that, because it could not be the collar itself. Even double struck coins sitting on the collar, don't get sheared off in that fashion (think of that 2008 cent you sold me, pictured here). Metal for coins is very is malleable (from annealing), and not brittle.





Lastly, the marks you see inside the "clip" are not consistent with sheared nickel - it looks filed. Dave, I'll happily examine it in hand for you, and can even share it with other error experts at Coin Expo (if you get it to me before Oct 2) - but I still think my initial interpretation of post-mint damage is the right one.

For the rest of you - Errors, and learning about error coins, is a steep learning curve. Not all dealers can afford the time to learn about these, and often have to buy and sell lots of coins that contain "anomalies". This is not necessarily done intentionally. Try thinking from the other side of the table to put things in perspective. Lastly,







I gave, and I still stand behind, my original opinion; you don't have to agree with me (nor anyone else); you are entitled to your own opinion. Frankly, I personally disagree with the title of this thread, because it is excessively misleading and possibly a defamatory statement.

The new picture the seller has provided helps me better understand what happened to this coin.
