The stars were most likely added with a soft die, the rim denticles in that area have been flattened as well.

I have thought about it a little over the last few days and while I would like it be confirmed as a double strike, the hypothesis seems problematic. While the obverse seems to show signs of a previous strike, I have have to wonder why the reverse doesn't seem to. The extra hair curl and stars appear to be shifted roughly downward but not rotated. If double struck that would only seem to make sense if one or both of the strikes was off center which doesn't appear to be the case. What westcoin and biokemist6 have said seems to make more sense. It would be nice to hear what you think when you get it and the opinions of those much more knowledgeable.

I am totally on the fence about this one. It deserves a micro-study.

Would a partially split planchet from another coin that got stuck on the die and then struck onto this coin be a possibility?

That's pretty wild looking for sure, no matter which way I look at it the stars starting from left side of the coin don't take a correct path where the extra's are. It would be interesting to know the diameter & weight when you get it.

Tracking says it was delivered. Won't be home until later tonight but then I'll weigh it and get diameter.
