A friend at work mentioned that his mother had a Franklin half dollar 5 coin US Mint commemorative boxed set (dated 50s and early 60s). I have not seen this set in person and I have not been able to find any information online on this set for him. Does anyone here have any ideas?

It sounds like a set put together by a private mint. Pics would help though.

That is what I said, but he assures me it is a US Mint box (and he collects a lot of mint sets). I asked for pictures also.

that it definitely sounds like it was put together by a private company (aka "Mint").
...and Franklin halves aren't even commems in the first place.
We need pics.

This is probably a third party set. We definitely need good pics.
Some of these "third party mints" use very deceptive names..

Agree with others...

This is definitely not a set assembled and sold by the US Mint; it was put together by a third party and (apparently) incorrectly promoted as a US commemorative set. Franklin half dollars were regular circulation issues, not commemoratives.
