Hi guys, New to collecting and have had fun and some good buys... until: 141399646880Or look up seller: hillrj2007 Paid my $280 plus postage, finally received it, and I have some concerns it may be a fake. Firstly it's been scratched on the back like someone trying to work out what it's made of, 2nd the lettering is flat - yet the headband and diamonds are like an uncirculated coin. Can you guys please help me out with opinions? Thanks Andy. *** Edited by Staff - Fixed Link ***UPDATE: I've done my best to upload photos w my phone - see images in later posts. Sorry they arent gr8 - dont know what happened to xshift :) Edited by andycoinster 09/26/2014 07:19 am

Hello Andycoinster and welcome. Firstly email your seller straight away that you are concerned the coin is in your opinion a fake. Secondly immediately open a not as described case in PayPal, this will give you time to sort things out don't wait as time is the key in getting a refund, Don't worry if it turns out its not fake you can just simply close the case and keep it. If its fake you will have to return it to the seller but make sure you send it registered post as ebay will want proof it was sent back. Thirdly get some pics up on here asap so the boys can identify it for you they are tops when it comes to coins they helped me with the exact same problem sold a dud 1925 penny totally fake, And yes I got my money back. Hope that helps. But don't wait any longer make sure to open a NOT AS DESCRIBED case in paypal asap. You have like 40 days to complete it from there from memory.Good Luck.

Just a quick question why did you leave positive feedback for it if you think its a fake. I think you need to act quickly now so open a dispute and either post some get some good quality pics up so it can be assessed or take it to a reputable coin dealer near you for them to look at. Good Luck.

Sweetap, the seller is tricky included a note saying he'd left glowing feedback and cld I do the same asap. The coin was wrapped in thick plastic & looked ok - great in fact - so I left feedback. Then I had a much closer look....

Sweetap, the other problem I may have is I paid by credit card so not sure covered by paypal. I'm going to ring Visa this morning as well. Edit - no it did go through paypal - thank god for that!! I'm panicking a bit - but have emailed photos to xshift. You can see scratches clearly on the back - & in ebay listing they were just a faint patch.

Guys, really really need yr help with this. What do you think? I live on the central coast nsw and doubt many coin dealers here - will need to head to Sydney for an expert opinion.

@ the very least you can apply for "item not as described" due to the scratches on the reverse. That's if he refuses a refund -

At first glance it looks genuine to me. Haven't got time to study it at the moment

Thanks very much xshift for putting those photos up for me. Just wanted to outline my concerns: 1. the headband is very good yet the lettering (eg. IND. IMP.) is nearly flat - this is usually quite bold and somewhat protected by the rim lip. This is also on reverse - the "COM" - flat - so in similar position both sides the lettering is poor; - the wear marks look fake - like the coin has been put on something flat and rubbed back and forth; - the colour is just a bit off, different to any other penny I've seen - sort of more tan; - looking along the rim it is PRISTINE - not a knock, a nick, a rub - just solid metal; - somebody has scratched it - I think to check it out. But: - the actual portraits, letters & numbers look okay; & - if not a fake it would be a pretty darn good 1925 penny (wouldn't it?) if it wasn't scratched. I'm in your hands... *** Edited by Staff - Please Review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. ***pps. this should be common sense - and I stuffed up - but it's a good lesson to always check the item really carefully before giving feedback. I had a quick look through thick bent-over plastic and concentrated on the crown and thought yeah that looks okay. I was trusting and dumb and reacted to the bright orange note that came with the coin urging positive feedback (only one I've had in yrs of eBaying).
