NZ Kiwi Florins et al are really really cool...I mean, a hairy flightless bird? Thats like an egg-laying mammal, with poison glands and a duck bill!

Do dragons get classified as birds? I have a few dragons on banknotes! Some of them flying too!

Ah, but if you think of dragons are they not more likely to have scales? That would class them as reptilian (phantasmagorical as they are).

Now there's a subject for another list. Phantasmagorical/fantasy creatures. I'll see if someone else can come up with alist.

Beautiful notes - thanks for sharing. Do you have a similar collection/list for plants?

I wanted to add my 2 cents on the bird/dragons/scales discussion. The evolution of feathers is still hotly debated but one theory is that they are really highly modified scales. So, as long as your including fantasy creatures, dragons might count. My question is, since birds are the living relatives of dinosaurs, will your collection also include dinos?

My brother-in-law is a zookeeper. I got him into collecting by showing him the wide variety of animals on notes.

The current Bermuda series with birds on the back is spectacular.
Rest in Peace

So, Patrick, are you saying the egg for the first chicken came from something not quite a chicken?

That answers that question.

Exactly. It wasn't the chicken or the egg that came first. It was the dinosaur.

Let's face it, any banknote collection featuring dinosaurs is going to be pretty small.

I have a subject index of my French notes, at *** Edited by Staff - Please Review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. *** and was surprised to see essentially no overlap from my bird notes to yours. If you're looking to add to your bird collection, you might go through my index and add anything in that you don't already have.

Can't have a French collection without some chickens:

Our $50 has the kokako and the mohoua. Most of our notes throughout our brief currency history had birds on them, so did our coins
