So the 2016 ATB design candidates have been announced: http://mintnewsblog.com/2014/09/201...-candidates/Some interesting designs out there. Here are my favorites. What about yours? Shawnee: IL-04 Cumberland: KY-03, 05 Harpers: WV-06, 07 Roosevelt: ND-03, 08 (and 09 as a backup) Moultrie: Not a big fan of any of these. SC-05 I suppose.

@CelticKnot Looking at the coins first and coming back to your picks I was right with you on most of them
Shawnee: IL-04 Cumberland: KY-05 Harpers: WV-06 Roosevelt: ND-09 Moultrie: SC-06 except the blank whatever it is he's standing on (boat?). It needs just a bit of something (and I like 07 but that popcorn is hilarious and has to go)

I am a fan of the coins that have wildlife in them. I really don't like that they have decided that people were ok IL-03 or 04 I like them both ky-03 The proofs should look very cool wv-06 MV said it first nd-08 I like the nd07 cabin best but the landscape best in the the nd06 sc-05 Only cause I have to pick one. The 06 makes me laugh. He looks like hes going to try the happy gilmore golf swing.

I've looked at the designs an again comfortable with the feeling that the designs that I like will be passes over.
Illinois - For being a coin about a national forest the design that comes closest to hitting the mark is either 3 or 4 with the most pleasing being 4.
Kentucky = designs 3 or 6 hits the mark. Don't know what the artists of the other designs were thinking of. Either would be acceptable.
West Virginia - designs 1 or 3 do hit the mark for a civil war site. The other designs don't even come close to the mark at all. #2 is to close to #1 that either would be acceptable but the nod goes to #3 as for historical factualness. After all Harper's Ferry was an armory.
North Dakota - I think that only design that truly honors the park and why it was created is design #9. The first three solely honors the man and not the park that he created nor remembering who benefits from the park. The cabin scenes don't really make an honest reference of what is being honored.
South Carolina - Again the historical remarkableness of the park is left to wonder. This fort spans an age from 1776 to 1947 where the fort stood to protect the country. So as far as I can see these designs pay no heed to any period or age. It's not even a melting pot of the age. The only thing present is a military history that is not spoken of. This area has a proud history from the War of Independence, to the Civil War, WWI and WWII. So I am lost as to what is being truly honored. There is not even a rendering of the fort in any of these periods. #2 could be the revolutionary way, With #6 possibly being the Civil War, with the other renderings being anything the viewer chooses to think. There is nothing definitive about any of these drawings with #1 an abombination of an idea of Political correctness running amok.

My vote:
IL-04 KY-02 or KY-06 (KY-01 is especially hideous) WV-06 (but not crazy about any of them) ND - I actually like them all, but would probably say ND-01, ND-04 or ND-09 SC - all terrible and confusing, but maybe SC-02 is the least embarrassing.

Why does all the Shawnee look like they are images from Nevada?
KY-05 WV-06
ND-01, got to have a rough rider, you know, riding....They are cavalry, not infantry.
SC-04, it is the only one that resembles the idea of a Fort instead of looking like a Klingon hand weapon or an Iwo Jima depiction.

They all suck. Not a single one that is worth a darn. They really tanked on these. Way too much interpretive art junk here. But the ones I can deal with... IL3 KY 3 WV 6 ND 1 And none of the SC. A horrid mess.

If I had to pick one of those designs for Fort Moultrie, I choose SC-01. The crescent is symbolic (just look at our flag). However, it would be even more appropriate to showcase the palmetto logs used on the original fort (which gives us our nickname, The Palmetto State). SC-04 shows the trees (in the background) and SC-03 hints at the logs. For what it is worth, Fort Moultrie is one of my favourite places to go when I am in the Charleston area. I have been there more times than I can count.

The really dislike the use of mottos such as KY-01 & KY-02 and the horrendous titles in WV-05 & WV-05A. If the art work can't depict the subject without telling people what it is, then maybe it's time to rethink it.
