Went through a dealers junk box of jefferson to see if I could fill some holes in my albums. I found a 1938 d and s and 1939 d and s for ten cents apiece. I'm not sure but I got a few duplicates for the 1938 s and d cause they seem a lot rarer almost semi keys. I also got some almostuncircullsted late 1940's to early 1960's. Are those worth anymore than face circulated?

He seemed to have the view while I was talking to him that Jefferson nickels was a junk series to collect. Though he was way overcharging on his circulated War Nickels for $3 a piece.

Even if I did overpay atleast I got a uncirculated 1945 s jefferson for 50 cents in the claw machine.

Great pickups on the 38 & 39 coins! As far as the dealer thinking Jeffs are a junk series, you may be able to pick up some real deals in some Unc coins. I've put together many sets and My Jefferson album is still my favorite.

That's an excellent price for average circulated 1938 and 1939 D and S mint coins.

Yeah he has two machines and my friend bugs me to give him quarters to play it. They are all inside balls. Most are relative junk buffalo, Indians and wheats, sometimes foriegn coins. He also puts in wooden nickels that were as coupons and lucky number ones. My friend got a number and got a choice between two proof lincoln cents and the gem uncirculated War Nickel. My quarter so I got to choose the prize and keep it.

It took me a hour to go through the nickels all pre-1964 for .10. I bet I went through 2500 nickels in that box. It was thrilling but my friend and the dealer was astonished that I went through them all and bought like $6 worth.

You did OK. However, I've met people that say they've almost filled a Folder or Album for Jefferson nickels by getting rolls from a bank. Took time but all for face.

Just t give some perspective both in encouragement and caution....I think you did great! Nice grabs. It is always good to find out what a dealer likes and most importantly, doesn't like! What a dealer likes you will not have much of a chance finding a deal on, but what he doesn't like...well....they often rather give them away than to clutter their cases. I am currently working on my Jefferson collection from circulation and yes, you can find some nice stuff out there from rolls! In the 38-64 part of the series, my only unfilled holes are 38 D and S, 39 D, 43 D, 44 D and S, 49 D, 50 D, and 52 S, and some of them are even MS! I really hope I can be patient enough to get them from rolls, but if I could get those hole fillers at the price you got them...I would be very tempted!

Yeah after that trip I'm down to my 1950 d, a 1959 for some odd reason, and six of the silver jeffersons. I have another fresh box in my bedroom of nickels so hopefully I can cross some more off. I also seem to find one or two gems from the 1930's-1960's that I can replace my fillers each time.

Fantastic deal on the 1939 s. That is one of the key dates.
