It's a four digit radar, condition looks to be about AU.
There would be a small premium for the note, if you could find a buyer. Personally, I would just spend it. The face value is too high to justify hanging onto, in my opinion.

Definitely hold onto this one ! Its a beauty Considering that people can waste the same amount of money on gambling ,booze, cigarettes, drug habits etc hanging onto this lovely note is not as bad as it seems in the grand scheme of things

Thanks for the quick response I think I will stash it away somewhere. Are smaller bills more sought after by collectors or is it just that the premium is small compared to the face value?

Quote: I think I will stash it away somewhere Perfect ! There is no hard and fast rule about which are the most sought after but I would think a large denomination bill like yours is a better bet because realistically people can only withdraw a small number of high denomination bills as a large sum of money from the bank hence the likelihood of coming across a interesting note like yours is statistically smaller compared to say $5 notes were someone could easily get a huge bunch of them just by withdrawing a few hundred dollars and then search them .... The premium over face value is larger as a percentage for small denomination bills but looking only at the amount you can sell a rare note for I would say a large denomination note like yours will give you more Ka-ching !

Quote: I would think a large denomination bill like yours is a better bet The majority of collectors tend to shy away from high denomination notes, because of the cost of hanging onto them. Why bother paying a high face value, and a small premium for a high denomination note, when you could buy multiple low denomination notes at the same price.

Quote: Why bother paying a high face value, and a small premium for a high denomination note Because you will want a note that not every collector has hence it will become the masterpiece in a fine collection True , while a lot of collectors will shy away from a large denomination note , those who will show interest will probably be the heavy hitters in terms of paying big bucks for it ......

The ones I see show up on ebay, always seem to get relisted without ever attracting much attention. Serial number collectors like to collect serial numbers, and high denomination notes just take too much money to collect. You can have 10 $5 radars with $50 face value, or 10 $100 radars with $1,000 face value. The $100's are not nearly as liquid. Edit: I should mention that the real beauty of collecting coins and paper money is that you can collect whatever you want to. My posts didn't intend to (and I hope they didn't) take away from from the experience of finding a not so common note. Congrats on the find Nick.

I HAVE to agree with this viewpoint. The potential to currency inflation makes a $100 note expensive to own.

If I was going to put away a RADAR $100 note I would try to find one that was 2 or 3 digits, not 4

Awesome thanks again everyone. Do you think its worth getting graded? What kind of holder should I put it in?

Cdnbanknotes: kinda hit the nail on the head with this one...
I can go to the bank with 5K grab 1000 $5 notes.. in there I'm likely to get a couple of radars and a couple of repeaters...
List and sell the $5 notes if they're UNC's for $15 and everyone is happy...
I have now made a decent return and can rinse and repeat as many times as the bank will allow me to get bricks..
With $100 notes.. there's NO WAY anyone will pay $300 for a repeater let alone a 4 digit repeater.. if this note was in UNC condition.. you may be lucky to get 10-20 bucks over face...
So in face value you alone your margins just went from a 300% profit to a 10-20% profit.. and your liquidity has decreased..
And holding onto large denominational notes thinking they will appreciate more isn't a great move either... ask anyone holding onto a 1980's 1K note.. even as an UNC they have in fact depreciated against inflation...(what you could buy with 1K in the 80's was a LOT more than what you could buy now)
Long and short if you collect papermoney and you can afford to hold on to one.. I'd say hold onto this one until one in better condition comes along.. otherwise if you let this one go into the wind.. your not losing out on anything fantastic

Thanks for the info, will keep my eyes peeled for a 3 digit and then replac3 this one. Are radars and repeaters the same thing?

They can be the same thing. A radar is when you read it the same front and back. Like 1234321. Hence the name RADAR. A repeater is when the digits repeat. A four-digit repeater would be 1234123. A three-digit repeater would be1231231. A two-digit repeater and also radar would be 1212121. If it's 1111111, it would be called a solid.
