At a Long Beach show earlier this year I brought some recently graded PCGS gold coins to a very well known dealer. This is a dealer that I had purchased thousands of dollars worth of coins in the past via the internet.
The coins I offered (each valued at least $2000 or so) the person at the table seemed disinterested and threw them across the table saying, "not interested". I didn't even state a price, but was looking for an offer. Scratched my new PCGS holders and I would describe the person as a word I can not use on this family friendly forum.
Having attended coin shows for several decades it still amazes me how some of these dealers conduct themselves.
How would they like it if I looked at their coins and threw them across the table and said "not interested"?
This may be one reason why coin shows are losing popularity.
On the other hand there are many dealers who are helpful and friendly. Due to a good attitude I will try to find something to purchase at their table.

Wow, that really stinks.
I'm guessing there's a dealer who just lost a great customer.

In my experience there's always one or two dealers like that. The majority of the folks I've dealt with are very pleasant and helpful.
I wouldn't even bother with him anymore after that if it happened to me.

not sure how much time has passed since this happened to you, but the first thing I would have done is contact the dealer and "discussed" their representative's rude behavior

I would've asked if they were interested before I handed them anything. YMMV

Take it the next level and write, or email, the owner(s) of the company. Explain EXACTLY when and what happened. Explain the response by the employee of the company. If it costs the person behind the table his job that is just the way it is. The owner knows you do not treat customers, or their merchandise, that way.

ArrowsAndRays, that's a good point but it doesn't excuse the dealer's behavior.

To be clearer, the coins I offered they have on their website. Sometimes they have a buy price and sometimes not..at the time I offered they only had the ask price but no bid price. This is a major market maker. So a reasonable person would assume they would make an offer. Regardless, they were just extremely rude (and scratched my holders).

I would certainly contact that dealer directly. I would hope no matter how big this firm was, at bare minimum they would offer an apology for their representative's behavior. Obviously, you have given them quite a bit of business and an apology would be the least the dealer should do.
As far as poor behavior by certain dealers, there always seems to be one or two with extremely poor attitudes. Last month I was at a smaller show where I generally meet with a couple of dealers who specialize in world or Canadian coins, but I made a couple of stops at the tables of U.S. dealers because another collector I know had asked me to see if I could sell a couple of $200-$400 IH cents for him there, all PCGS graded. The first clown I got to looked at them, said they were overgraded junk and he would give me $25 each for them. Leaves a bit of a bad taste in your mouth.

I absolutely despise dealers that have the attitude that everything that they own and display is "absolutely the best" while everything that you own is "worthless junk".
And they are the first to wonder why coin shows are dying a slow and painful death!

Well needless to say you handled it a whole lot better than I would have..
Handling the slabs in such a maner that it actually scratches them would tick me right off....
I would like to say the cooler head in me would have some sharp or witty comeback... but I know my faults... I think my first reaction would probably be to call the guy out on his rude behaviour and demand that hey pay for the damage to my property...
Although if I was feeling like being an extra big hemmeroid I would probably ask to see some of his higher end stock that would also be slabbed... and give him a dose of his own... but instead of just chucking them on the table I would probably just toss 'em behind me.. and walk away...
In short.. I'm sorry that was the way you were treated... it's funny how in a business that's pretty much based on customer service... there are people that absolutely lack all intrapersonal skill and yet still find success...

I'm not sure what I would have done, but probably would have escalated it right then and there. I probably would never buy from them again regardless.

So Jimbucks, I laughed when reading your post because it reminded me of a question thread I had about cleaning a coin. You responded in a kind way, however not all did. https://goccf.com/t/188333Does calling a coin shop's coin garbage sound about like the tone of some of the responses I received? Just saying.

I think you should contact the firms owner by phone and let them know about their employee, hopefully soon to be a former employee. That kind of behavior gives our hobby a . John1
