By coincidence, yet another 1863 Go "Cap & Rays" 8 reales with a relief chop at 12 o'clock. However, none of the Chinese speakers I consult with recognize this as any translatable kanji character. The eagle side is not shown as it is unmarked (and therefore unremarkable).

Here's one I bought just today. It's particularly interesting for having a swastika plus three relief chops. One incuse chop translates as "small" - One of the relief chops stands for "east" - Another of the incuse chops means "sky" - The native speaker of Chinese to whom I showed this coin didn't recognize either of the other relief chops -

Swastika is luck but you probably already know that.

Quote: Swastika is luck but you probably already know that. In Chinese culture, besides "auspiciousness" or "good fortune" it has alternative meanings as well. It is associated with the number 10,000, can be taken in a religious sense as signifying the myriad of all things (what we in the west might simply call the "universe"), and in some contexts, is identified as representing the sun. So it's really hard to say what the merchant who applied this symbol to a coin specifically had in mind.

Yet another "Cap & Rays" 8 reales, an 1862/1 Zs (Zacatecas). I'm not sure if the relief chop above the eagle's tail is a decipherable character or merely an abstract symbol.
