I would like your opinions on how you would grade this 1788 Massachusetts cent. Any opinions on the attribution are also greatly appreciated. Thank you!

As a novice in Colonial grading. I'm guessing this one is close to a F12? Vermontensium and Phillidelphian should be along soon enough.

Great colonial G! The new EAC grading book has a section for grading these. Using the book I will give it a Net VF20 grade. If the head and feathers were a little stronger I would be at Net 30.

This is a really cool coin. I'm curious about the motto. Common wealth. I wonder if they meant that to be one word or two. Big difference in meaning

Nice eye appeal, a few planchet flaws as struck but not at all distracting. VF25 for me. Can't attribute it right now. Don't have my references in front of me.

Thank you for you comments. This is one that I had some trouble with regarding grade. The planchet flaws on the obverse seem to be typical of MA coin, from what I have seen, and often located on the top of the obverse. This is a type which I like very much. They seem to have circulated heavily as often pieces are found on the ground.

Finally had time to get an attribution. The diagnostic for the Obverse is, "arrow head is amost equilateral triangle" making "C" "E" or "F" the reverse choices. E is a match with an arrow or two piercing the wing. So... Ryder 11-E is my choice. URS-9, 125-249.

I have zero expertise in this area of numismatics ... but writing to acknowledge that this is indeed a tremendous coin and one certainly worthy of praise. Thanks for sharing it (and you other tremendous USA examples) with us. David
