The following is a release from the US Mint

Final-American-Platinum-Eagle-Preamble-Series-On-Sale-10/20WASHINGTON - The United States Mint will accept orders for the final coin in its American Eagle Platinum Proof Coin Program Preamble Series on Oct. 20 at noon Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).

Launched in 2009, the Preamble Series features coins with reverse (tails side) designs that commemorate the core concepts of American democracy by recognizing the six principles of the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution.

The 2014 reverse (tails side) design is emblematic of the principle "To Secure the Blessings of Liberty to Ourselves and our Posterity." Designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Susan Gamble and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Joseph Menna, the coin features Young Lady Liberty carrying her torch, symbolizing the hope and promise of America. It also features an American Eagle privy mark from an original coin punch identified at the United States Mint at Philadelphia. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 oz., .9995 PLATINUM, and $100.

The reverse designs in the Preamble Series are inspired by narratives prepared by the Chief Justice of the United States at the request of the United States Mint. Design themes of previously released coins were: "To Form a More Perfect Union" (2009), "To Establish Justice" (2010), "To Insure Domestic Tranquility" (2011), "To Provide for the Common Defence" (2012), and "To Promote the General Welfare" (2013).

Orders will be accepted at http://catalog.usmint.gov and at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468), while hearing- and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may order at 1-888-321-MINT. Please visit the United States Mint website for more information on our new shipping options: catalog.usmint.gov/customer-service/shipping.html

Mintage for the 2014 American Eagle Platinum Proof Coin (product code EP2) is set at 15,000 units. Pricing for the coin will be based on the bureau's policy for numismatic products containing gold and platinum.

I've recently started to collect the $10 platinum proof coins. Can you perhaps tell me why the last issue was in 2008? Thanks.
