I bought a '35 george v locally and it was sold as unc. It was $50US which I thought was a very good deal at the time. The surface looked proof like which I should have noticed at the time wasn't the case. Under closer examination at home I saw that the coin had been lightly polished. It was so lightly polished that there was mint luster still left in parts of the fields even where I could see polishing lines.
And it is lightly done, it is pretty thoroughly polished, as in, when you rotate the coin under light you can see different sets of parallel lines show up as the light angle changes.

That being said, the details are all there of course and the coin is a better date. Also weren't there specimen coins out there that are rare? would the cleaning completely detract from the value in a cleaned condition?

Thinking about asking for a discount or store credit. These guys are pretty reputable at this shop.

I find two things interesting...

1) That it was sold as an UNC when you could see polishing lines...

2) The "code" on the bottom left of the flip... I've seen a very similar type of code (almost exactly the same) from a flee market dealer in Ontario..

If you say these guys are reputable ... I would put that to the test... I wouldn't bother asking for a discount after the sale.. (the time to negotiate price has passed) Just return the coin and keep an eye out for something better...

For $50.. you should be able to find and pick up a very nice UNC '35

AgCoinAu is right. I would try to return it. For $50.00 you can get a nice MS62-63 on ebay. And yes, there are 1935 SP
Dollars but one would probably cost in the $1000s of dollars range if you can find one.

If you saw that it was a good deal at the time, it may help to explain why the price may have been already reduced by the dealer, because he saw that it had been lightly polished.
However, you (and me) don't know that for sure.

If that is the way the dealer has seen it, it may make negotiations for a store credit harder to achieve.

Just play it cool and friendly. Good manners are like good oil.

coinschangelives: I can't remember the exact location.. I will talk with my buddy... he lives here in Winnipeg but actually ended up meeting a this dealer and he bought a LOT of coins from them.... IMO he may have over paid a bit as most of the items looked cleaned. Send me a PM and I can get you more details later.. I do recall seeing some similarities in the codes... so my guess is that with enough of a set I could probably figure out the code.
