Just had a chance to sit down and open my set and realized that on my Uncirculated coin their is a diagonal line running through the Eagle's neck and shield. I have attempted to post a photo below showing the line.

1) Would this be considered a die crack?

2) Any suggestions as to keeping it or sending it back to the mint for an exchange?

50th-Anniversary-Kennedy-Silver-Set-Uncirculated-Die-Crack?

As always, thanks for the help and advice.

: Better photos, please -- and if it's actually a die crack, definitely hold onto it.

However I have a hard time believing that there would be die cracks in a series with a mintage of 300k, but I guess anything's possible.

That is kinda cool and does look like a die crack but a more defined pic is necessary.

I would definitely hold onto it....

I can not see the problem with the posted pics either, however if there is a problem then I would return it for a better coin.

There are some people (well, at least me) who are not fans of poorly made products. Any coin with problems like 'die-cracks' is junk and should rate around an "AG" quality and price.

Maybe you should preface your comment with "In my opinion..." because there are some serious collectors of die varieties. I used to collect Morgan dollar VAM's and it was a fun time with lots of followers.

BTW....coin grading is determined by the amount of issues imparted to the coin AFTER minting (bag marks, wear, etc.). A die crack is part of the minting process.

As I said previously, I cannot say if this is a die crack from the pic supplied but it very well could be...

Gimme a few hours and my 5 sets should be here and I will be looking forward to getting one like yours....

No die crack on any of my coins but almost all are of dubious quality and will be returned. Coins not worthy of a "special" set....

No issues with the set I looked at yesterday, however, I have yet to examine under magnification and good light, which I'll do tonight. At this point I'm happy with it.

Are you sure it's not a crack in the airtite? I would think that there would be many of these showing up if it were a die crack. If it is a die crack, I'd keep it.

I'm working on getting betting images and will hopefully be able to post soon. I do not believe it is a crack in the airtite - the airtite surface is uniformly smooth under a loope. If it was a crack / scratch on the holder I would think I would be able to distinguish it from a condition on the coin. Hopefully better photos will help.

I would suggest opening the airtite to confirm.

I opened the capsules on my coins with issues to confirm that the problem was on the coin surface and not "dust particles" or capsule issues.
