I can't seem to stay away from the early 1880 S-mint Morgans. Here's another.

Opinions on grade?

My camera must have been on a slight angle, you can see that the top and center of the coin are well focused, but the bottom is a bit fuzzy.

The main focal points are gorgeous but the bag rub on the hair and cotton bolls hold it to 66 for me. Yeah, nice examples of early S mint Morgans are tough to pass up.

I'd give it a 66 also, what I think holds it back from a 67 is that spot under the eagle's left wing on the reverse. Beautiful coin none the less!

Hard to fault. MS65 with a "*" or "+" added on as a floor, a higher "market" grade absolutely possible.

Really clean morgan, I think 65+ or perhaps 66.

They do come nicely struck usually. I have a nice '82-S, not as high grade as yours, but still a beauty.

Thanks for all the opinions so far.

In hand, I call it a 65+ with a shot at a 66.

Strong 65, very good shot at 66. Definitely a submission candidate.

I had to re-shoot theis coin.

The original images being slightly out of focus drove me crazy.

Didn't get to this one the first time around. I think it might bean at 66 myself. Heck, it noses at 67.

Utterly beautiful images. This is what I see in my mind's eye when I'm trying to teach people to take pictures - I want their images to look like this. They're good enough to honestly consider offering MS67 from images.
