madness, please commit to this forum that you are not and will not "POLISH" these coins you are finding. Someday, these items will leave your hands into hands of other collectors and you must try to maintain the coin's integrity for the sake of future coin lovers. Thanks madness, berry
no worries berry. I vow to never polish anything again, and commit myself to the integrity of my collection. I am getting agitated though that every post I make is being returned with a polishing remark. I get the point, and I understand its effects. I only polished 1-2 junk change coins and had no desire to even touch my collection with it until I heard its effects. I am trying desperately to dive deeper into coin collecting, but the comments I've been recieving almost make me feel unwelcome amongst the forum community.
Madness, First off, welcome to this forum. Dont take it too personally, all these "don't polish your coins" comments. The majority of the members here are very sensitive on this subject and it upsets most of them if a coin is polished because it harms the coin and places it in an undesireable category. And the value takes a hit if it has some value. There have been a lot of people who have purchased coins that they, after the fact, found had been polished, cleaned or worse. This is an ultimate sin in coin collecting, so everyone is pretty uncompromising on this subject. There doesn't seem to be much of anything you can do to "polish" a coin without harming it, which is not reversible, and therefore eliminates another coin for the pot. I know you will find that most everyone here is very helpful and knowledgable about a wide range of coin issues. I have been amazed on this in my short time here. I look at this forum as a huge resource to help guide me through the murky waters of coin collecting. I have a lot to learn, but I know I have a source to help me during my journey.

Well its hardly in circulation but my step mother brought over a money box we used to fill up as kids for me to have. There was around 3kg of Australan coins in there that I dont think have been touched since about 1985. I found 25 1966 50c pieces, a bunch of unc 1970 Captain Cook commems, and a large number of unc 1c and 2c coins that I am still searching through. It was a coin fossickers bonanza!

I had a good day today, a small handful of wheat cents- best date 1937, two (!) bicentennial Ike dollars, and a 1961-D quarter. The cents and dollars came from a customer's change, the quarter I found in a roll. Our coin rolls come in those dang blasted infernal plastic wrappers , and I could see that one of the quarters had a solid silver-colored edge. I opened it expecting to find "Moose Money", but it was actual silver!! Rachel

A customer gave me a 1964 20 Rappen Helvetica (Swiss) today thinking it was a nickle! I took it and replaced my till with a U.S. one! Sneaky aren't I?

Found a '62 and a '64 Roosevelt dime. Both with plenty of detail on the torch and in the hair. I also found a '64 Canadian penny.
