"they are as elusive as a sasquatch! They do not exist! I was being a numiscomedian"
With the discussion including the reality of fakes I thought that is what you had and seeing pictures of some "real" fakes would have been awesomely helpfully before I decided to bid.
I do intend to try and find images of fake old coins in hopes of furthering my edcuation. Yesterday really opened my eyes to my lack of knowledge and it may end up costing me real money. cheers Liverpool

47P7: I seriously doubt it... would be kinda cool to see one though... I heard that CC&C had one awhile back... but I don't think they had it when they were at the RCNA here in winnipeg.. Liverpool: Nicklesguy at one point sold a DVD or zip drive form of his work.. I personally found it very overwhelming.. there's sooo many photos on there.. (I think close to 300) I think if you contact him or look on his ebay web page you might be able to get a hold of the file... In this day and age I think it's almost necessary to be able to spot a fake..(sad state)

Thank you all for following my story. I have to say it's been a roller coaster and I am feeling a little emotional drained. (you guys can be my therapists)
Here is the rest of the story: I did hold the coin, earlier in the post I said I saw it through glass. I apologize for this misinformation but with no reading glasses it was hard for me to really examine the coin. It was easier to state at the time I was looking through glass.
I am far from being an expert on coins, I can say however the coin was circulated with everything clearly legible including the date.
I asked my friend to max out the bid at $120.00 Can. Was this a mistake, maybe someday I will find out.
There were in the end two bidders, when my friend maxed out the coin went for $120.00 (my bid had been $110.00) I lost the auction.
I own several Pre Great War Canadian 50 cent pieces. With out the ability to closely examine the coin as far as I could tell I was holding a Canadian 50 cent piece with the date clearly reading 1921.
Fake or Forgery, I can't possibly know. Do I regret not giving my friend a higher number..........yes but that's hind sight. If I could do it again....yes I would have made time to look closer. Earlier in the post I spoke about busy family.... I take this very seriously and trading time with my family for a maybe was not in the cards.
I now pass on my story of a possible encounter with the King of Canadian coins, the 1921 50 cent piece hopefully to the new owner.
New Brunswick is a small place with a small group of collectors. Ask around if you live here. I'd love to know what the coin was.... lovely fake or a Canadian treasure. Thanks to all for taking the time to read this. Kindest regards, Liverpool

Gosh, didn't John Madden (USA football coach and commentator) once say, "family is overrated."

seriously, there are posters here who in fact did own, and still own one or two 1921 50 CENT coins, all authentic. I personally sold 2 of the 3 I owned during the last few years. ( one recently in a private deal) Now a friend came up and said: can you get me one in a decent grade? And there are at least two other members here who DID own one or two until recently.( Edmonton Show) and P L E A S E, do not ask for pictures, as these are very easy to identify and most owners do not wish to show them...... until ready to sell.

I am speechless 47p7.....
I remember seeing the pics of your nickels and hearing how you have all the Newfie gold coins and variants...and now to hear that you have had and owned more than one '21 50 cent piece.... Amazing...
Now just to be clear when I said "unlikely" I was referring to the fact that a '21 50 cent piece would be in an auction and a professional auctioneer would not realize what they had.... If that piece was truly legit that's an absolute missed opportunity on the auctioneers part for a very decent sized commission . Furthermore given the limited population of this issue I only assumed that many of the coins could be accounted for...
Course that's only an assumption...
I certainly do apologize if my previous comment was misconstrued in any way to be directed at you as a collector or what you may have in your collection....

one other member here still has at least one, probably 2 knowing him. They may not be top grades, but, honestly who cares.
