I had a call from my elderly neighbor, he had a bunch of U. S. coins he wanted to sell me.

He has got 15 Eisenhower dollars in au or unc. condition, plus 10 Kennedy half dollars in the same condtion, was wondering what they would be worth?
They are in the early 1970s.

Actually difficult to say due to what some say is Uncirculated may only be close to that. In reality, Kennedy half dollars in the 70's are as common as grains of sand, slight exageration of course. I go to banks and get a few rolls all the time and many appear close to Uncirculated since they just do not get circulated. The Ike dollars are a lot less common but most not worth a lot. Note the prices listed by Snooba are what you would pay to buy them from a dealer but if you tried to sell them to a dealer, you would get a lot less.
Sorry but not really worth to much.

Agree with Carl, my local dealers sell these for next to nothing. They have bins full of them. I don't care what Red Book says, they're everywhere and not worth much more than face.

Anything less than gem uncirculated should be spent in my opinion. I get AU/UNCs in change at my coin shop. Unless you have a reason to own them for your collection, there's no reason to pay a premium for AU or lower grade, and perhaps a modest premium for uncirculated. Maybe he has something else?

Spend them. Leave them as tips. Give them to the younger cashiers. Maybe it will spark a collecting interest. They make great stocking stuffers too.

Be carefull leaving them for tips if the waitresses don't know you. They may throw them at you thinking they are play money.
No kidding though, I left a few of those baby dollars for a tip in a restaurant and the waitress said loudly "Sir, you left some of your kids play money on the table"

No offense but I have a lot of those items as well. I spend them and leave them as tips.

On those RedBook prices remember that those are RETAIL prices, not what you can sell them to a dealer for and much of the price shown over the face value for the circlation coins is just the dealers handling charge.
