PacCoin...re: the Bank of Canada Gold hoard, yes, a great exciting purchase opportunity for the collector, but again as I said before, try selling an ms62 or an ms63 back to a dealer and all you'll hear from them is 'bullion value'. 47P7...I know all too well about profit margins as I've been buying and selling for a donkey's age. It's the willingness or even an offer from a dealer I'm referring to regarding the 1914 pieces. The dealers don't even want to touch them.

As far as the Langdon Hoard goes.... Mainly Vicky and Edwards. I hear the 'outstanding' pieces are mainly Copper. ICCS has already graded them and I believe Chuck Moore has them and will be auctioning them off in the near future.

Quote: Spp-Ott....try selling an MS 1914 5c back to a dealer. I have sold one to a dealer, recently. Remember though, that the dealer came to me, rather than me taking a coin to a dealer - there is always a big difference in price between the two...

One other thing if it is around a thousand coins and mainly Large cents, I highly doubt it could really alter the landscape of the coin market in Canada . If it did change the market drastically, then the Canadian market is even more THINLY traded then I thought. Still waiting for a published story on this one? Could someone post something tangible?

PacCoin...it may influence high end prices since I hear alot of them are ms65 to ms66.
I don't think there's any worry from Good to ms64 prices.
This also could just be heresay, so he'll have to wait and see.

Maybe I'll be able to finish an MS 1891 cents...afford-ably!

If it is mostly copper, I agree, it will not cause a dramatic impact on the market, if it had been mostly quarters and halves, that would be an entirely different story...

I suspect it won't alter the landscape quite that much either. The auctioneer no doubt wants to hype the sale as much as possible. This was his CCN cover story and this was probably his best shot to market the sale. If there were many truly amazing pieces, I think he would have highlighted them to the market (like was the case with the hoard of buried US gold some months ago). I suspect that, while this is no doubt a fascinating hoard of coins, there will be lots and lots of MS 60s and MS62s and a lot fewer MS65 rarities. Also, if he has thousands of amazing pieces to sell, don't you think he would have had a sale for this collection alone?

After speaking with one person.. this is what I found out... There was a roll collector who died in the 1920's... This collection has since been in the family, but the "grandaughter" now wants to liquidate...
I don't have all the details but I think that the coins will be sold in lots... That's what I know so far.. I am confident that this auction will bring out some pretty big players who will want to stock their inventory.

Pacificoin - There is a lead article on the Landon 'hoard' on first page of the most recent issue of CCN.

The big players will want to stock their inventories for sure but at what levels ? Still no tangible news story in the coin world on this. All seems to rumours and speculation at this time?

I suppose it is "all rumours and speculation" until we see what is in the collection.
