Everything about this coin screams to me as "clipped" but I am unsure about the edge of the coin. Since this is the only clipped coin I own and found it in circulation, I am skeptical about its authenticity. Does this coin look legit or is it PMD?

It looks okay to me, but wait for the error experts to chime in. I still don't understand the bit about the core getting flipped in US coins.

It looks to be a genuine clip to me. It displays the blakesley effect on the reverse & obverse. It's also showing a weakness in the devices that are closest to the clip.I believe you have a winner. Congratulation

Going by the Blakeley effect it looks real but I have not seen an edge like that before.

It may be possible that something happened to the edge while it was in circulation to make it the way it is. How do the edges of other clipped coins compare with mine?

From the pictures of other clipped coins I have seen, the clipped edge appears to be smoother and clean looking. I am curious as to how my coin got what looks like a lip that folded over. Does anyone have a theory?
Rest in Peace

Just a guess, but I would assume that the coin got used and therefore knocked around a bit.

One of my earliest finds (40 years ago) was a clipped cent that I pulled from the cash register where I worked.

I suppose that as long as the coin will continue to go through coin sorting machines, it will continue to be in circulation. That means more and more dings.

Also, I would think that with part of the collar missing, a weak spot is created.

The incomplete planchet did not allow the clip to flatten against the collar as it would not during the strike. But the blank may have moved a bit during the punching out of the stock material. Looks like the real deal from what I can see.
