This has a more mottled/splotchy appearance than the other 2 I've found in circulation. is this the real thing and is it desirable like this?

My immediate reaction was that it was environmental damage. But I recalled seeing something like this before here.

Your coin looks different than the coin in the other thread but what biokemist6 wrote is sticks in my mind. It seems as though you could have a black beauty and at the same time have no extra premium because of circulation wear.

IMHO - stained from environmental damage ... not a Black Beauty which has uniform 'sintered' color on the entire coin.

thanks for the input. I do believe there is a chance it is real, but I'll put it back in circulation.

PMD - buried/acid damage

should be a solid gunship grey.. any varied color, red or silver showing through is environmental or PMD

Note the finish on the slab. Note how the whole coin is the same color and still shiny. Just darker in color.
