I believe this is the S-143 variety. I'm thinking vf30 or 35. Your opinion is appreciated...... Edited by doubleeagle59 12/01/2014 5:38 pm

Oh, that's a beautiful coin I agree with the variety S-143 and the grade is somewhere in the VF30 - 35 range.

I'm guessing you're aware of the importance of this piece, doubleeagle59? What's your opinion of the surfaces? I'm wavering between "beautiful" and "artificial."

SSDdave.....not 'in-hand' yet...it's probably in a plane as we speak.
Color looks a little 'played' with though.

I hope you mean a plane as in airplane, as opposed to a plane used to level surfaces! Nice coin.

I concur, S-143 and pretty elusive. I'm at VF25 Details based on your photos. Would like to see your own photos of this coin once in hand. The blueish dull fields concern me. Not a good sign for old copper.

How do you say MOST BEAUTIFUL in english?!
Very, very nice, and R5 to boot.
I am at VF25-VF30, possibly lightly cleaned based on the photo (but nothing that a lengthy stay on a windowsill will not cure).
Congratulations!

Interesting. The color is questionable.

The blue in the picture may be due to a white imbalance with the picture. I've taken their picture and with photoshop changed the white balance and here is the result and hopefully the coin looks more like this......

Trouble is, the original pic is cropped against a transparent background so we've no reference to determine the quality of their white balance. I am cautiously optimistic as to what you're going to see in-hand. Not that it matters for a variety that's only appeared 14 times on Heritage in the last 25 years.

Good gracious, that's beautiful!
I was going to say the color was beautiful but not like anything I'd seen before. Not album toning then?
I'm at 40 net 30+, fantastic coin!

As SsuperDdave said. Quote: I am cautiously optimistic as to what you're going to see in-hand. Not that it matters for a variety that's only appeared 14 times on Heritage in the last 25 years. Hope it is the real McCoy.

I'd say the EAC grade is F15 a commercial TPG grade is probably around VF25/30. The last one I can remember seeing was in the FUN auction in January 2014 by Heritage, from the Mervis collection EAC VF25/PCGS XF40. http://coins.ha.com/itm/large-cents.../1200-2629.sSold for over $5K for that one! And previously in the fantastic Dan Holmes & Walter J. Husak Collections it sold for over $8K in the Husak sale! This coin is not all that far from the Holmes/Husak/Mervis piece. I sure hope this coin arrives in good shape doubleeagle59, it sure is a beautiful variety. (The S-143) is a no stems reverse Large cent for those that don't know.

Very nice. The TPGs would probably call it a VF25-30, EAC F-12. It is an extended condition census piece, somewhere between the 15th to 20th finest known. I don't have Noyes CC photos but if this is a previously known piece the provenance should be determinable. The dents on the neck and the one in the right field should make it instantly identifiable.

Coin has arrived! I believe the coin has been lightly polished, but since it's a rare coin, I'm not too concerned about this.
