Hii: I am sitting on the fence on this coin. I cannot decide if these are original surfaces or not. I could use some input, I am not usually a copper collector, so I am unsure. Anybody have a sense as to if this looks cleaned or not? Thanks!

It doesn't look cleaned to me. Obverse has a couple of scratches and dings but I dont see any indication of a cleaning.

Cleaned and re-toned in my opinion. Circulated examples are usually darker in color. Guess it could be the photos .... Does it look this way in hand?

I don't have the coin in hand, I was considering buying. There is no indication of abrasion that I can see. My concern is that is was dipped. I too, was wondering if it was re-toned. Thanks.

Also: The coin is being presented as uncirculated. This is a tough one. When I am unsure if a coin has been cleaned, I pass on it. I wish I could be more sure of this coin. Thanks for the replies.

I see nothing which concerns me that I can't assign to the photography, but I think it has circulated slightly.

Looks like a nice AU coin. Nothing jumps out at me as being cleaned.

I think its ok. I grade it at AU55 based on these pics.

AU55 at least, looks like some light circulation on the let side of the obverse leaves, and the reverse usually looks that way on lightly circulated coins, don't think it's been dipped, that usually makes these look very orange or pink.

The center of the reverse looks nice and natural. The brighter rest of the coin concerns me, but the experts like it, so that's good enough for me. I agree it looks a bit circulated.

Once again, thank you all for your comments. The seller is holding out for a pretty rich price, I will have to think on it. I am looking for a 1864 to place in my Civil War set. This is a very nice example.

A nice Brown or Red Brown in MS63 to MS64 should not be a problem, there are a lot if you wait on ebay that will come up in the $130-170 range, certified that is.
