Hello all,
I came across an auction that caught my eye, but didn't win it. The problem was I didn't know what I was bidding on, so I didn't know a good amount to bid... I went up to about $55. Did someone get a sweet deal? Also, can someone identify the coins for me and tell me a little about them? They look neat, if they are real. Thanks!

Here's the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...DW:IT&ih=004

Regards,

The Austrian coin is the Maria Theresa Thaler, and is worth the silver since the Vienna mint is still cranking them out. The Bavarian Thaler could be worth some more if it is authentic, but it is hard to tell with that photograph.

The Maria Theresa Thaler is a later issue which usually sells between 10-15 dollars. The Bavarian Thaler of Maximilian III Josef which I would grade as fine is valued at 25 dollars. So you were better off not winning the auction.

From the looks of it, I'd say you didn't miss a thing.

Thanks for the input everyone, glad I didn't bid too high.

Hopefully that will be the last time I bid on something I don't know anything about!
