What is that metal blob where the mint mark should be. It appears in the wrong spot to me.

Well... This is awkward.... I was going to compare my 1945 D to yours but then I realized that I didn't have a '45 D. Huh, thought I had one...

It doesn't appear to be punched into the coin from the reverse. Is it the same color as the planchet or a different one? If raised, it looks taller than all the other devices on the coin?

It is taller than everything else and the same color. Any idea? Any value?

Well the only thing I could think of if it is a mint error, the die field must have been damaged with a strong contact in the field. It is too consistent to be a die dot I feel. The problem with the die damage theory is that there should have been many that looked like that, but this is the first time I've seen this. So the jury is still out on this one right now for me.

I would keep it safe for now. See if any more turn up. Maybe see if more turn up. You are only out the cost of the coin to keep it for now?
