Recently I went to the bank and as I often do, asked if they had any Kennedy halves. The teller's eyes got wide and said yes, someone just dropped off two rolls! I said I'd take them. Then I asked if she had any dollar coins, meaning SBAs or brass. Her eyes got even wider and said, yes, she just got a small pile of "y'know, those really big dollars!" I asked her if she meant the Eisenhowers. I could tell she didn't know what I meant, as she didn't answer. But she then reached into her drawer and showed me about 15 Ikes, which I was happy to take for face value. I took all the Kenndys and Ikes she had.

Once I got home, I looked them over, and lo and behold, they included a 1964 90% silver JFK, 40% silver 66, 67 (2), and 68-D. The Ikes: a 73-S silver clad, and 1776-1976-s silver clad. All in very nice condition! I'd say it was a successful trip.

WOW! Now that is a nice score, and at face value to boot. I would have freaked if I found those silver Ikes. Just the idea of that is amazing. You found "real" silver dollars at a bank in 2014.

great score. My bank never has any Ike$ and only has a decent quantity of half dollars when someone dumps their rejects.

I still recall a story someone here told about getting a handful of brass dollars from the bank, and upon returning home discovering one of them to be a 19th-century five-dollar gold piece.

When she mentioned "big dollars," for a split second I envisioned going home with a handful of Morgans. (If that's what they were, however, she might have suspected something was up when I fainted.)
