Most of stuff is Morgan silver dollars starting from 1800s. One large box of gold coins and about 20 odd platinum ones. About one tenth are in recognized holders/cassettes. Most of them may well be polished versions

Your NGC and PCGS slabs (the last two posted) are legit and quite nice. The first coin will need to be authenticated and we can help you with that. Depending on what you have, having them graded may or may not be necessary. Have fun and be patient. Don't get in a hurry at sell at any rate.

That platinum $100 one is worth over $2000 as well. You better find a safe or bank box for these. So far you've posted about $7k worth of coins. Here's a good place to look up any potential value for the coins you have: http://www.numismedia.com/fmv/fmv.shtmlFor Morgan dollars, the CC mintmark are generally the more valuable ones. Make sure to take care of those ones if any.

Since I have moved this one, lets keep this thread for your US Modern Coins, and you can start a second thread for your US Classic Coins in that section

Guess biggest issue will be to find trustworthy coin dealer who will offer fair value. Live close to Camino coin in Burlingame, CA and Numis International in Millbrae, CA. Not in a rush to sell, though and based on your advice, going to learn something new and take it slowly. Bless my brother who had been collecting coins, stamps and bills for 20 years. RIP..

Welcome aboard! Be careful when approaching a dealer, I've had a few tell me how many issues a coin of mine has, how common it is & then offer to purchase said coin. Keep in mind... even if you find a fair dealer (they are out there), coin shops will always offer less than retail (that's how they pay the bills). Selling directly to a collector will generally net a larger figure.
My condolences to you & your family. Maybe you can find joy yourself in continuing to connect with your brother through exploring the hobby he obviously loved very much. :)

Selling directly to a collector will generally net a larger figure. That is definitely true. However, selling to individuals has costs involved, too. ebay takes 10-15% by the time you cover shipping, commission and payment fees. And you have to accurately inventory, list and photography to make full market value. Selling locally takes a lot of time to set up buyers and exchanges. Both involve risk of selling to someone shady or inviting crime. Sometimes losing 30% to dealer isn't a bad deal overall, including cost of time and risk. In all cases make sure you do your homework as that's the best way to avoid getting taken advantage of.

Welcome! You've got some really great coins. The best advice you'll get is "don't clean them". The second best is learn about what you have before you do anything else. This forum is a terrific place to start.
