I have the opportunity to buy a junk coin lot for $17.50

There is a 1915 Barber half dollar - the seller told me there is a clasp on the back.

Worth buying? I think there are a few silver coins in there too.

Do you happen to know if the clasp is attached with solder or glue?

That lot does appear to have enough silver melt value to cover the price. I would be cautious of the coin just above the one with the four holes. That looks a bit like verdigris.

I will ask the seller - hadn't thought of that! This is why I come here for advice - (if it is was glue the coin would able to be somewhat restored with a solvent, right?)

How many of the New Zealand half crowns are before 1945?
Those before 1945 are .500 silver, .2273 ASW each.
There is a NZ.500 shilling and possibly a Cdn silver quarter.
There is a good chance of more than one ASW ounce.

Perhaps good value, but why do you need junk coins for?

Heck yeah, I would buy it. If you don't want to buy it, I would like to buy it.

I too would buy that. IF for nothing else, just the fun of looking through them all. Never know what is there unless you try.

Looks like there might be enough silver and other interesting stuff there to make it worthwhile. Melt on the barber half is $5.70 and there looks to be some other silver coins too.

I think I would offer 10-12$ or walk, those coins are in pretty rough shape.

Might be worth $17.50 just for the fun of sorting through it.

Not a bad idea to make a lower offer first. You may get lucky. You may not. The final decision to walk or not is yours.

I see several coins with verdigris, but I would love to look through those coins. I would offer $13.00 and see what happens. Good luck with it.

It would be well worth the learning process for me, and I would gladly spend the $15. If the clasp is silver brazed, it may not come off cleanly, but with a nice obverse, it could make for an interesting belt buckle or bolo tie. Just my thoughts. Keep us posted.
