Ive found a few mercs that were definitely AT, but found this one recently where it just had tone around the rim. This is only picture I have, don't have the proper tools for lighting on full size pic seems to transition much smoother than some AT ive seen. ok these arent great, could only get lighting on one section Edited by Shale 01/07/2015 10:52 pm

The image optimizer might help with the size of your photos. They're huge...

The coin has circulated a bit, so I have to suspect the toning even though it seems to follow the natural thin film color progression. So, toning by a "natural" process which a TPG would probably adjudicate as "artificial" because of the coin on which it appears.

It's not *too* uncommon to have circulated coins that have toned that way after spending years in an old album. Also not uncommon for Mercury dimes to have rim toning like this (again, probably from albums). This one does look kinda fishy though. It's a circulated example of a very common date though, and doesn't have much eye appeal, so it's not something to get too worked up about either way.
