1999 D Roosevelt Dime Error? - Coin Community Forum

Buddy Rest in Peace United States 7075 Posts	Posted 01/09/2015 3:47 pm Are all the scratches incuse? Some look raised in the pics. Raised lines are proably die cracks. Incuse lines might be the result of a planchet being damaged before meeting the dies. Keeper for now. Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 01/09/2015 5:07 pm Scratches/gouges on the die, will make raised lines on the coin. Note how the flow behind the devices? The field is the outside part of the die, devices are deeper into the die. If they were die cracks, they would have flowed over the devices. They don't, so they are die scratches/gouges.
