Depending on angle there is very obviously something wrong with the nose, looks like other examples I have seen in the 40's

Some scratching but definitely in the VF range.

Thoughts?

It could be a grease-filled die, but I'm leaning more towards very slight die polishing, possibly to remove clash marks in that particular area.
Rest in Peace

Broken noses on Mercury dimes are caused by die polishing and are pretty common throughout the series. They are neat, but they common enough that they don't usually carry that much interest.
