Well, what caused the double rim on that section of the coin? We'll start with that.

Rim Cuds are from a chipped collar. A Die Cud would show up on the outer circle of the die inside the rim area.

While we're at it, let's look at the front of the profile, IGWT and see if the reverse is as offset as the front....

Oh, I'm completely clueless too. Otherwise I'd have already stated an opinion.

There's just a ton of stuff going on which, on its' face, indicates a pretty anomalous strike. Is the front of the profile as weak as it looks? IGWT that spindly? How worn was that die, anyway? The date is sharp.

Looks like the obverse die was clashed and been polished to remove the motto area. Removing parts like you mentioned.
