recently found this 25 cent clipped with some other coins I had stashed away to look at in the winter. Now, soon it is spring. crocuses are sticking their heads up.
I have absolutely NO idea about clipped coins.
please help. what is it worth, what grade do you think it is? should it be graded?
Thanks guys.

When I click that link the first one that comes up is a 2006 double clip for $109. That price may be a little high but your coin is in far better condition and has nicer clips. Yours is a small denticle.

I would think there would be a premium for the number of clips on a coin. I'm not a pro grader, but would say yours would be MS63 at least, maybe 64. Another thing to consider is the type of clip. Curved clips may bring a bit more than a straight clip. Also the degree of how much of the coin that is removed could be factored in. Just my opinion.

I did a search for double clip quarter - SOLD - listings, unfortunately, only U.S. quarters came up.

I agree, the more clips and the % of what is clipped make up the value, along with the condition of the coin, probably north of $100 closer to $200 is my guess

Looks like post mint damage. The clip doesn't match the size of the planchet, the denticles are deformed, and the coin is bent.

The denticles (and the edge reeds, for that matter) likely only appear deformed because the Blakesley effect from one clip ends up right next to the other.

I do have some suspicions about the second clip (never seen a Blakesley effect that looked like that), but the clip near the date looks real enough to me, and I see no reason why one clip would be real but not the other. Most likely any of the weird effects are just due to the clips' interaction with each other.

Not that I'm anything remotely resembling an expert, obviously.

Thanks so far guys,
I can assure you that the coin is not bent. as for close up images with a macro lens, minute differences can show up because of the focus issue. either on one with details or the other. if you want both dead on, a 1000$+ lens is needed. And that coin is not worth it as I am not collecting clipped coins.
The suggestion of PMD is interesting but is not realistic.

To your comment I believe you are correct with the distortion, looking at the edge image again, you can see there is a slight angle to the coin (upward) and the right rim is closer to the camera, and "appears" to be slightly higher

I think that seller is very optimistic. A triple clipped quarter sold a while ago for around $80. A very similar quarter was out there again unsold on ebay for $200.

I would think more like $25 to $50.

I have two triple clipped 25c coins, mint state grades, in PCGS error holders, that I put out at coin shows for $125 each (and they have not sold, yet, note that $75 of that is the PCGS grading). Raw, your coin is worth about $40, assuming a MS-63 grade or so, PCGS graded, it would be worth about $100... PCGS graded and MS-65 or higher grade, then you might get $150 for it...

For it to be worth more than $100 as a raw error coin, the clip sizes would have to be considerably larger...

yes PMD in my opinion, because the coin is bent... detaches look legit though.
