My first post in this subforum...still not sure how to get really accurate pics. Newbie trying to learn about my inherited coin collection so any information welcome. This one is in a PCGS slab from the late '80s I think. I'll post how it was graded soon, but what do you think?

For Dahlonega gold it looks pretty good. I'll guess XF45 with a 50 being possible.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and give it an AU53.

Whatever it is, it is a nice coin in my book!

What a way to start out!

I agree this is likely AU50 or AU53.

It's an example of the Small D variety based on the mint mark.

Looks great for a D since these are often mushy strikes. I say AU. Would like to see what the TPG says.

What's the standard amount of time to wait before posting the grade?

It varys by the OP. Most usually post 1 or 2 days after.

Probably AU-53 max due to friction in the fields which has dulled most of the luster. Actual wear is very slight and the coin looks very choice. Beautiful (and valuable) piece!

I am seeing some luster on that coin. Nice. Please post the 1855 type 2 dollar next.
