I am not sure what I am seeing on the surface on this Adams coin. Usually I can tell if it's a die obstruction or something else, but the way this looks, it looks as something was peeled off it. It came out of a fresh roll of denver coins so it has not been tampered with before. Is it just some die obstruction or is there some lamination thing going on? Thanks. Pardon the pics but that's the best I can do, but I am improving!

You are seeing the effect on the surface of a coin that was Struck Through Grease. It is not a lamination error. That uneven, "fuzzy" look to the surface is the major sign used to distinguish a Struck Through Grease error.

Thanks,
Bill

Nickels, dimes, and quarters made in the last (at least) ten years
are abundant with Struck Through Grease errors. What's the explanation for this?

As I understand things, these are actually more common than clean, unobstructed strikes in the Presidential dollar series. Far as I'm concerned they are an eye sore. If I were to collect the series in as high grade as possible, I would specifically avoid coins with this kind of surface problem.

I agree. An eyesore for sure.
