I just received this one from the FUN auction and freed it from the PCGS slab. I'd appreciate your thoughts regarding grade.

S-279 R.2 in my opinion. Nice VG-10 details but the corrosion hurts. EAC 6. I wish the obverse looked like the reverse. Nice coin none the less.

Can ask why you would remove it from the slab? I thought it is always better to have a slab coin (unless you are trying to close to grade value on a "details" slab.

Many copper collectors prefer to keep and view their coins raw. There are many subtleties that the plastic masks. Another reason is that many copper collectors like to handle their coins. This may sound odd to someone who collects silver but it's something we like to do. I store all my copper in acid free paper envelopes.

I grade VG10, with the obverse a little higher as usual for Classic Heads.
Yes, there is some corrosion but it is light and isolated, mostly on obverse. Overall net VG8 seems correct.
A nice coin overall.

As Celticsoul stated - copper lovers break them out so we can hug them. The serious EAC members don't like slabbed coins either.

Slabs are NOT for everyone and this proves it! Nice coin.
