I bought a bunch of P-D-S Cent bags from the mint in 1973-4, as a young lad, I put them up in roll's along with lot of Wheat cents that I bought from an old collector. These went into a canvas mint bag and have not seen the light of day until today. Is there any thing I should be looking for as I go through the 1973- 1974 roll's? It looks like there is 2 roll's of 1972 and a 1961. Of course a picture .... Image Insert:

Wow, those are a lot of rolls. I would pick up a book that specializes in error and variety Lincoln cents.

I agree with checking out https://www.coppercoins.com Or if possible, purchase one of his books on Lincoln Cents. You just may have a real great coin there in that mess. If you find a 72 that appears as if your vision has gone goofy, sort of double vision, ignore that and send it to me.

Well Just Carl, I need to go to the eye doctor, I think I am seeing double. I pulled the first 8 cents from one of two 1972-D rolls, and found this. The others look like pictures on Coppercoins.com . (I think this is a 2 pepper coin) It is the first Die Break I have found. I am going to continue this topic at the Error and varieties forum. Looks like your going to have a lot of fun going through those rolls. Cheaper than a movie, right? Keep us informed if you find anything.

I've seen that die crack on the 1972-D before. Must have been a close relative of the batch you have. There is little in the 1973-4 area that is real exciting, except for a nice 1973-D/D that Billy Crawford found. The 1974 has a large and small date in them. Seem like they are fairly common though. But check Coppercoins.com/ before entering a new date/mint mark. There is always the hope of finding a new discovery. It happens every once in a while that a new variety appears.

Nice finds so far. Lots more to go. You could post photos of any error types you find. The only problem with this is my eyes are very weak so the best thing would be to just send them to me so I can see them in person. The primary thing here is if any of those are appearing doubled or tripled, it may well be due to eye strain which is just one more reason I am trying to be helpful and considerate of your health so just send me the entire pile. I might even pay for shipping. Not sure, but possible.

Just Carl, I am concerned that I may over work your eyes. I found 3 of the die cracked cents and the lettering looks to be doubled, at least LIBERTY is. the jury is out for IN GOD WE TRUST. Also I found 3 die clashes with doubling also. I have another roll to go through, I thing it is in your best interest that I examine these myself, (Think of your eyes, JustCarl I wouldn't to cause you any strain on the ol' Peepers) (click Image's for larger pic) Image Insert: Image Insert: Image Insert: Image Insert:

The ones that you thought were doubled? Your right, they are doubled, but machine doubled. Not a real doubled die. There are a few RPMs from that year you might check to see if any are in your roll. One real nice DDO though.
