I am probably beating a dead horse here, but I am wondering about the best way for me to go about storing junk silver.
I collect copper pennies, and roll them into rolls, I then store the rolls in a US Mint $50 bag (so far I've got $20 in pennies) but I don't know if this would be the best way to store silver.
Currently I have filled three square coinsafe tubes with quarters, but these tubes are made for rolls and all of the quarters slide around a bit. I'm thinking I could just roll the quarters and store the rolls in the tubes.
These are junk, and were probably in a bunch of people's pockets over the years but I don't really care for toning. Would keeping them in rolls eventually tone the coins after years of storage?
Thanks, Mike

All you have to do is limit the amount of oxygen able to reach the coins. Store your rolls in food-grade ziplock bags with the air pushed out of them, maybe throw in a dessicant pack, and you should be good.

I collect World junk silver coins. They come as 'by catch' from job lots, or I buy them as individual coins, when they are numismatically interesting, and when their price is close to melt value. They are stored in bulk, in a clear plastic jar.
Because of their huge variety, they are nevertheless very interesting to look through occasionally.

What about buying junk silver by the pound and stacking it as insurance?

No issues storing it... if it's only melt value ... you can store it any way you like...
If you're trying to prevent toning... air, humidity and sulfides are your enemy

Any silver coins worth saving (like my commemorative dollars, bullion coins in mint state, etc) are in individual capsules and stored as such. All my 'junk' silver is nowadays stored in my 'treasure chest': I bought a series of old Norwegian coins which were nicely packed in a wooden chest: the price for the set was about half of the sum of the individual coins. As I buy coins and not cases, I decided to get rid of the trays inside and just dump all my junk silver in it. It's mainly Dutch, Swedish and American silver.
Before that, I stored my junk silver in ziplock bags. Which also was fine, by the way, it's just a tad more 'classy' now.

I store my Swedish junk silver in an old portable bus change-maker. It has slots for all silver circulation coins except the 2 SEK coins, I store those in an old bank with the copper-nickel ones, since they are collectible aswell. Other junk silver typically goes in my "country slots" in my main collection. If they don't fit anywhere they go in a smaller, decorative wooden box. I don't have too much junk silver so they all fit as they do. I might have to upgrade soon though, if my collection will keep on growing as it has recently.
