Can't tell which from the images but either cleaned or plated. Not brass.

Hello Condor101, what if they are real Brass they'd be worth a fortune. Has there been any Brass 1909 VDB?

Was it sold to you as a brass planchet or are you just assuming? I'm just wondering what the seller told you about them.

Quote: Has there been any Brass 1909 VDB? Nope. You could probably get them analyzed by a major gold buyer who has an XRF machine, but if they're brass they'll be a first. Especially having been produced at widely diverging times, before and after the design change.

Is there any luster? They kind of have that Tabasco sauce look to them.

You can see the copper in the areas on the face. It may have been plated or it toned/cleaned/altered. It is now is starting to wear off and you can see the copper coin underneath.

Hello all, I bought these at the coin show in long beach for $2 each. Maybe I should give them a small gouge to see if copper is underneath. What do you all think of that? I'm curious.

If you do, make it on the outside edge of the rim. That way it won't damage the coin.

Weigh them first. That will tell us everything we need to know. Don't to a gouge test just yet. You will ruin any potential value.
