Visited the Library Company of Philadelphia today (see the US Paper Money Forum to see why https://goccf.com/t/197290), and happened upon their example of the exquisite Libertas Americana, commissioned in Paris by Franklin, and this one presented to the Company by Franklin himself. The resemblance to Joseph Wright's Liberty Cap US copper coinage design is unmistakable. It's still argued that Wright himself may have designed the medal's obverse.

Now this is what I would call a very historical piece with its direct link to Benjamin Franklin. It is gorgeous.

These medals are amazing! I had the opportunity see two and hold one at the EAC convention last year. One was raw and the other in an NGC holder. I passed on holding the raw one. Agrad I would drop it. Held the stabbed one. It was in ms grade with great surfaces and toning. Yeah, I wanted it, but way out of my league. Thanks for sharing Philadelphian.

The allegorical reverse is so meaningful. I agree it's an amazing link to Franklin. With so few minted, and Franklin so closely involved in their design.

It is possible Wright may have designed it. He did move to Paris in 1781, On the other hand he left Europe and returned to the US in 1782 a year before the medal was made. I think it is more likely though that he didn't design the medal, but used it as the model for the flowing hair Liberty cap design.
