First, I would like to say hello to the coin collecting community. I've always enjoyed collecting coins as a child and lost that passion as I ventured out into the working world.

I have, from time-to-time, purchased some newer coins directly from the U.S. Mint. Like the 2000 Library of Congress Bi-Metalic $10 coin, all State Quarter sets, and the newest U.S. Marshals Service 225th Anniversary 2015 Three Coin Proof Set. But nothing can compare like the thrill of older coins.

Recently I stumbled upon an old can of coins I collected when I was younger and thought back to how much fun I had collecting coins. I by far have nothing special in my collection, but as a young child, every coin was special. Especially those that I found by digging them out of the earth. Anyway, not realizing it back then, that keeping all your coins in a can might not be the best way to display (or protect them) so I decided to show them the dignity they deserve and store them correctly.

My collection would probally fall into the well circulated category as they have seen better days. I think at least I have a few dozen well mature coins

Numerous Liberty Head V-nickels dates ranging from 1897 - 1912
A few Eisenhower dollars
1890 Indian Head penny
1943 Mercury dime
2 Walking Liberty Half-dollars
Ben Franklin Half-dollar
2 Kennedy Half-dollars
Some silver quarters and dimes
Hand full of wheat pennies
And who can forget the Bi-centennial quarters....I have a lot of them!

But the most interesting coins would be my 3 Morgan silver dollars that I had received from grandparents after they passed.

1921 D Morgan silver dollar
1921 Morgan silver dollar
1878 CC Morgan silver dollar

I have a question for the community. I know that these have been in circulation, but is it worth it to have them graded? I have also noticed that the 1921 Morgan dollar has a more pronounced rim on both sides and what seemed at first like cracks around some of the letters.

I'll attach some photos, and different angles/lighting.
First 2 photos are the 1921 D Morgan
Next 4 photos are 1921 Morgan
Last 2 photos are the 1878 CC Morgan

Welcome StrikeZone!

The short answer to having them graded (by the companies) is 'no.'
Unless a rare date circulated coins are not worth the expense.
Much will depend upon the amount of time and study you do on your own, and
with the CCF as your #1 resource you will learn much.

The coins from your grandparents are special. To you.
But the critical view is the two 1921 are not special.
The CC dollar IS!
Send that one to the grading section.

There are a LOT of members who will help you out with the grade.

Have fun!
Rest in Peace

to CCF and back to coin collecting. I too, have much of my collection that I started when I was young. It's fun to pull out this part of the collection to look at from time to time.

Thanks for all who replied....I'm sure I will get much more information about coins from CCF than I did as a young child looking in old books.

I forgot to mention that I also have a 1895 S Morgan silver dollar, but can't seem to find it right now.... It doesn't have the mint CC on it but I'll keep looking for it. So I guess the CC on the coin is a good thing? I will have to do a lot more research on the Morgan's as I am just getting back into the coin collecting.

On nearly ANY coin, and in nearly ANY grade, yes. Carson City didn't mint that many coins. Sure, some issues were higher than others and render lower prices, but still they're higher than almost any other coin in the same series and of the same grade; i.e., with a few select caveats, most non-CC Morgans in Good-4 are quoted with prices between 30-40 USD (with lower silver prices you could pick them up for right around melt), whereas all CC Morgans are quoted at 100+ in Good-4 with certain ones (the 1885 and 1889) at 600 and 550 USD respectively.

Welcome back!
I think most of us that started as young children mentored by an older family
member tend to fall away from the hobby for a few years until we get our hormones
under control and start thinking with our brains again. LoL Not only do we, as
young adults, have too much going on in life to spare free time for hobbies, but
most of us go through several years where we also lack the money for hobbies. IMO,
if we come back to the hobby after making it through those years as young adults,
then we are meant to collect coins, and we are destined to pass the hobby down.
