My grandaunt (whom I call "other grandma" because she is my grandma's sister, and is more like a grandma to me than a grandaunt) has told me a few times as a kid, about getting SBAs as quarters, and making 75 cents off the deal. I still can not believe that the U.S. designed such a flawed design dollar coin, that was so close in looks and feel to the quarter. I'll bet the
SBA could have worked if it had a smooth edge, like the penny or nickel, or if it were a different shape than round, or if the coin had a hole in it. or if it were still reeded edged, but golden, like the current dollar coin. Ah well...
